Training for Turkey

Soggy running, sweet treats and a splendid start to the weekend.

It is the rainiest day ever outside today. And cold - only 7 degrees! Today's run helped me accept that summer is finally over... ;)

The workout: this route in 2 hours, 20 minutes. HR: 164-206.
What I loved: just me and the ducks and a handful of hardy runners on the Thames Trails, listening to Bob FM to mix it up, refreshing rain on my face when I was getting hot mid-run. (Starbucks afterwards is, of course, a given.)
What I did not love: Wearing a jacket that was only pretending to be waterproof (perhaps if I'd read the label, as was helpfully pointed out to me afterwards, I would have realized that it was in fact, more like a shiny blue sponge to soak up the rain), wearing trackpants that were only pretending to be water-resistant...you get the picture.

I'm kidding. Mostly. I actually don't mind running in the rain at all, I actually had several terrific rain runs in the spring and summer. I may have overdressed today in my attempts to avoid the cold (I'd rather be sweaty than chilly) - but did not anticipate how heavy all of my gear would become. I felt about 20 pounds heavier until - paradigm shift - I decided that I was just running with weights...strength + cardio = win! I would have taken a picture afterwards, but I was literally wrecking electronics left, right and centre, so I thought I best not. (Really, that whole non-waterproof attire thing...plus two hours in the rain...my phone is displaying a new error message repeatedly and the tunes...well, they are still drying out also. Both resiliently withstood the challenges of the elements with me, so I can't really complain.)

A great week for fitness, overall. Wednesday I had a speedy run home from work (just over 50 minutes, HR ave 168). Strength training Thursday and Friday courtesy of P90x! I tried the core synergistics workout in preparation for my full-time commitment to the program in November, and loved it. So good! Sample moves: superman-banana, mountain-climber, squat-press - every move used a combination of muscles and kept my body moving.

Tomorrow is the Run for the Cure! I'm super excited to be there, and be there with The Athletic Club! I picked up my shirt and race bib earlier this week (pre-soggy pictures because more rain is predicted for the run!)

I also had a fab week otherwise: Awesomeness has returned, we checked out my fave musical Anything Goes (ahh, fond high school memories!) and I got a great many things accomplished. And look at the sweetness I received:
